The separation of Spanish football player, Gerard Piqué and Colombian pop star, Shakira was confirmed.
Shakira, a Colombian singer, and her long-time partner, Gerard Piqué, a Spanish football player, who plays center-back for La Liga club Barcelona, have announced that they are breaking up.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for (our) privacy. Thank you for your understanding.” in a joint statement released by Shakira and Pique on Saturday.
The couple that everyone thought was perfect is splitting up. Shakira and Gerard Pique have announced their separation after almost 12 years together.
The news of their separation has sent shock waves throughout the world. Fans are heartbroken that the two have decided to end their relationship.
Many are wondering what went wrong between the two of them. Some believe that they just grew apart, while others think there may have been cheating involved.
Milan, born in 2013, and Sasha, born in 2015, are the two kids that the 45-year-old singer of “Hips Don’t Lie” & “time for Africa” and the 35-year-old soccer star and defender for FC Barcelona have together. They have continued to live in their home Barcelona, Spain, as their primary abode.
The two first crossed paths over a decade ago when the Spanish footballer appeared in the music video for Shakira’s song “Waka Waka.” The song was chosen as the official song for the 2010 World Cup, better known as world cup anthem waka waka. There have been more than 3.1 billion views of the video on YouTube.
In February, Shakira revealed in an interview with a podcast that she and the man she refers to as her “poor husband, slash lover, slash baby daddy” had had differences of opinion regarding the “timelessness” and “forever-ness” of their relationship due to their different upbringings.
During an interview on “Planet Weirdo with Holly H,” she revealed the time in Catalonia and Spain is not the same as the time in Colombia, saying, “Colombian time is not the same as Catalonian time, Spanish time.”
No matter what the reason for their split may be, it’s clear that both Shakira and Gerard Piqué are going to be dealing with a lot of pain in the coming weeks and months.
