Azie Faison was born on November 11, 1964, in New York City, New York, USA. A single mother raised him and his older sister. When he was six years old, his tenement was destroyed by fire, and his family relocated to Sugar Hill in Harlem, New York.
Faison was not a good student, so he dropped out of high school after the ninth grade. He did odd jobs around Harlem in his early days. He also worked for a local dry cleaner for two years. Following a screening of the 1983 film Scarface, Azie decided to enter the drug trade.

In 1987, he was charged with attempted murder in a robbery in which three people died, and three others were seriously injured. During the robbery attempt, he was also shot seven times.
It took time for him to heal from multiple injuries sustained during a robbery attempt, which hurt his drug network. As a result, he began to clash with his criminal partners, Rich Porter, and Alpo Martinez. Martinez murdered Porter in 1990, and he was later arrested and convicted on various charges.
Following Porter’s death, Faison retired from drug dealing. He also embarked on a mission to keep young people away from the allure of drugs. He later became more involved in rapping. In 1989, Azie also founded the rap group MobStyle.
